ဤဆေးသည် POM ဆေးအုပ်စုတွင်ပါဝင်သောကြောင့် ဆရာဝန်ညွှန်ကြားချက်အတိုင်းသာ သုံးစွဲသင့်ပါသည် ။

Metformin is first-line drug of choice for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Action
   - Decreases hyperglycemia primarily by suppressing glucose production by the liver (hepatic gluconeogenesis)
   - Increases insulin sensitivity, enhances peripheral glucose uptake
   - Decreases insulin-induced suppression of fatty acid oxidation
   - Decreases absorption of glucose from the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications
Pacformin is indicated in the control of type 2 diabetes mellitus i.e ,Non insulin dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM) especially in overweight patients.
It can be given alone as initial therapy or as combination therapy with sulfonylurea.

Dosage
 Adults : 500mg every 8 hours after food. Maximum 3 gm in divided doses per day ( Or ) Dosage directed by the physician
