Description

Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist. It inhibits cysteinyl leukotriene type-1 (CysLT1) receptor found in the human airway and on other pro-inflammatory cells. The binding of CysLTs in leukotriene receptors is involved in the pathophysiology of asthma, including bronchoconstriction, mucous secretion, vascular permeability, and eosinophil recruitment. Additionally, CysLTs are released from the nasal mucosa after allergen exposure which is associated with symptoms of allergic rhinitis. 

Indication

MONTEFIC 10 is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and paediatric patients 12 months of age and older. MONTEFIC 10 is indicated for the relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal rhinitis in adults and paediatric patients 2 years of age and older, and perennial rhinitis in adults and paediatric patients 6 months of age and older).

Dosage

The dosage for adults and adolescents 15 years of age and older is one 10mg chewable tablet daily. The dosage for paediatric patients 6 to 14 years of age is one 5mg chewable tablet daily. The dosage for paediatric patients 2 to 5 years of age is one 4mg chewable tablet daily. The dosage for paediatric patients 12 to 23 months of age is one packet of 4mg oral granules daily.
