Description

Telmisartan is Angiotensin II receptor blocker ( ARB ) producing its blood pressure lowering effect by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT 1 receptors, thereby reducing angiotensin II induced vasoconstriction, aldosterone-secretion and sodium reabsorption.

Indication

Telmisartan is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Telmisartan tablets is 40 mg once a day. Blood pressure response is dose related over the range of 20-80 mg.

Dosage depend on individual patient response and dosage directed by the physician.
