This medicine is prescription only medicine (POM ) and it is required under medical supervision .

Description

Omeprazole reduces gastric acid secretion through a highly targeted mechanism of action. It is a specific inhibitor of the acid pump in the parietal cell. It is rapidly acting and provides control through reversible inhibition of gastric acid secretion with once-daily dosing.

Omeprazole inhibits the enzyme H+, K+-ATPase - the acid pump. This effect on the final step of the gastric acid formation process is dose-dependent and provides for highly effective inhibition of both basal acid secretion and stimulated acid secretion, irrespective of stimulus.

Indications

GERD (Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease)

Peptic ulcer disease, duodenal and gastric ulcers

Prophylaxis and treatment of NSAID-associated ulceration

Eradication of H. pylori in combination with appropriate antibiotics

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome

Dosage
Adult: 20mg once daily for 2 weeks (up to 8 weeks). Treatment duration: 4 weeks (duodenal ulcers), 8 weeks (gastric ulcers). Maintenance dose: 20mg once daily. or dosage directed by the physician
